Account obligations for Work and Income Client Online Services

When you use Work and Income Client Online Services you must understand:

You agree that you will only provide information that you know to be true and correct to the Ministry of Social Development and Work and Income and your Youth Service provider if you have one.

You understand the Ministry of Social Development:

  • owns this service and may add or remove features at its discretion
  • may remove your access to this system without notice if it determines that you have been using this system inappropriately
  • may take legal action against you if you inappropriately access and/or use this system.

You also understand that if:

  • you have made a false statement
  • you have failed to provide all of the relevant information
  • you do not tell the Ministry of Social Development and your Youth Service provider if you have one about changes in your life that might affect your entitlement or rate of payment, for example, changes in your relationship status, address, income, costs or child care arrangements.

Then:

  • your benefit may be reviewed and cancelled and
  • you may have to pay back the total amount of overpayments received and
  • The Ministry of Social Development may impose a penalty (up to three times the value of the overpayment) or
  • you may be prosecuted and fined or imprisoned.

My Account

To help keep your account secure:

  • We are using the two factor authentication RealMe® login service and RealMe codes to protect your information. For more information on how this works see the RealMe website.
  • You must keep your RealMe login details confidential and must not disclose them or share them with anyone. You'll be responsible for all activities that occur or are submitted under your account. If you know or suspect that someone else knows your password you should change your RealMe password and notify us immediately.
  • If we have reason to believe that there is likely to be a breach of security or misuse of our Online Services, we may temporarily suspend your My Account access.
  • You should create a RealMe password that is difficult to guess. For example, don't use the names of relatives that other people may know or can find out.
  • If you think that someone may have guessed your RealMe password, you should change it. You can also change your security question answers whenever you want by going to www.realme.govt.nz.
  • To help protect your information, you should log out and close your internet browser when you've finished - especially if you are not using your own computer. In case you forget, the system will log you out automatically after 5 minutes of inactivity. You can always log back in.

Your Privacy

  • All information about you in your My Account is subject to our privacy statement and Youth Privacy Statement if applicable
  • Your user account details are separate to any other information and managed via the RealMe login service. If you choose not to use the RealMe login service, then you will be unable to use our online services to view or submit details via My Account.
  • Under the Privacy Act 1993 you have the right to ask to see all information we hold about you and to ask us to correct that information. To ask to see the information we hold about you, or for any other privacy questions, please contact our Privacy Officer by writing to Ministry of Social Development, PO Box 1556, Wellington 6140.

Apply online for financial assistance or New Zealand Superannuation

  • Your online application details are separate to any other information that you may submit.
  • Your online application will be stored and transferred securely by the Ministry of Social Development.
  • We will not share your online application information, or use it for any purpose other than determining your eligibility for benefits / pension.
  • The Ministry of Social Development will not look at or change your un-submitted online application, although if your application is left unused for 60 days, it may be deleted.
